The original Marea restaurant, situated on the prestigious Central Park South in New York City, has been an iconic dining destination for nearly two decades. The New York Marea has some quintessential design elements that clients know and love. The back-lit golden onyx bar which greets clients as they enter is one such design feature. The high-gloss, curved lacquered wood, reminiscent of a luxury yacht’s interior, is also a hallmark of the Marea brand. Additional distinctive touches include polished chrome railings and striking contemporary art pieces that pay homage to the golden era of Italian architectural design.

For the design of Marea Beverly Hills, the restaurant’s second U.S. location, it was essential to preserve the signature design elements that define the Marea experience. At the same time, we sought to incorporate new features that reflect the essence of Southern California. We still wanted it to evoke the feeling of being on a luxury yacht. We wanted those familiar with Marea in New York to feel a sense of familiarity while also experiencing something fresh, special, and timeless. We selected a lighter wood tone to create a bright and more airy atmosphere, harmonizing with the warm sunny climate. We needed to incorporate a spacious, covered patio into the restaurant’s layout, with a sliding storefront that seamlessly connects the indoor and outdoor areas. Our goal was to create a cohesive aesthetic, making both spaces feel like one.
